In part one of this two-part blog series, we went over some basics on headaches that may appear following a car accident. One of several symptoms that may show up in the aftermath of a vehicle accident, either immediately or with some delay, headaches might be signaling a few different things.
At Foundation Chiropractic, we’re here to help. We offer numerous auto injury chiropractic services, ranging from basic chiropractic exams to detailed whiplash treatments and several areas in between. We also assist those who deal with headaches following an accident, whether just in the following days or sometimes for those who struggle with this issue for weeks or even months. Here are some of the other ways our chiropractors bring you relief from post-accident headaches.
Multiple Injury Treatment
In many cases, those who have been in a car accident have not only suffered one injury – they have suffered multiple at once. But due to the nature of typical hospital or doctor’s office treatment for accident injuries, certain areas may not be addressed initially.
This is why seeing a chiropractor is so beneficial. Not only is a chiropractor able to assess injuries that may have had delayed effects due to adrenaline, they can also provide treatments in multiple areas, from bodily pain and discomfort to concerns like headaches. So even if your headaches didn’t start until you had already been discharged from the hospital after your accident, a chiropractor will be able to help.
Cervical Spine Concerns
In most cases, headaches you’re experiencing after an accident are due to neck injuries that have taken place. This may be due to the cervical spine, the area right at the base of your skull that’s responsible for holding up and supporting your head. When pressure is placed on the cervical spine, something that often happens during accidents where the head is pushed forward, headaches are one of the most common results. Again, though, a chiropractor will be able to make subtle adjustments to the cervical spine and other areas to relieve this pain.
There are several other areas a chiropractor may assist with here. One is providing clients dealing with headaches or related car accident pain with postural exercises to do at home, the kind that will eventually remove discomfort and improve your posture. In other situations, we may provide certain areas of massage therapy in coordination with chiropractic adjustments, as the two often work well when complementing one another.
